yoga for depression:
 Do you suffer from depression or the ?blues??  While yoga is by no means a substitute for good medical care, there is some research indicating that the regular practice of yoga can produce significant improvement in depressive symptoms and anxiety in people with mild depression.  This gentle yoga class is designed to help people who suffer from various types of depression and is appropriate for anyone interested in exploring the potential benefits of yoga.  No prior experience with yoga is necessary. Taught by Heather Rice. This class will begin on Monday, February 4, 2008.  Cost: $50 for 5 classes.  Class size limited to 12; please call to reserve a spot.

yoga for larger bodies:
 Taught by Heather Rice, formerly of Philly Yoga Studio, this class is ideal for anyone interested in yoga but reluctant to take a class with others who are ultra-thin and flexible.  All skill levels are welcome in this gentle yet energizing class.  Cost: $12/class, or $50 for 5 classes.  Please call to reserve a spot. 

Mar 22 - 5 to 8pm
cooking for diabetes made easy:
 Do you or a family member have diabetes or pre-diabetes?  This hands-on class will focus on preparing meals that taste great without sending your blood sugar through the roof.  Taught by Chef Rodolfo, you will learn to prepare easy recipes that can help you manage your blood sugar. Cost: $60 (includes meal and recipes). Class limited to 6; pre-registration required.

May 2 - 6 to 8pm, May 3 and May 17 - 8:30am to 3pm
mindful eating boot camp:
This engaging 2-day workshop is designed for people who struggle with food issues and incorporates many of the principles from the 12 week program.  Taught by Donald Altman, MA, a former Buddhist monk and psychotherapist, you will learn how to make meaningful changes and develop a deeper understanding of what drives your eating.  The focus of this workshop is on how to use mindfulness, or awareness, to help you change the way you eat and regard food.  An antidote to emotional eating, this powerful workshop can help you experience food in a new way.  A mindful lunch will be included both days. Limited to 12. Cost: $495 (includes lunch, guidebook and CD);  $50 discount if you refer a friend.  Pre-registration required.

May 24 - 4 to 7pm
cooking 101: a class for kids and parents: 
Basic cooking skills are the foundation to preparing balanced and nutritious meals that both kids and parents like.  In our cooking studio, kids and parents will team up to prepare a dinner that can be replicated at home for busy evenings.  Our meal will emphasize nutrition, flavor, and ease. Taught by a registered dietitian, the skills learned in this class will include knife skills, safety in the kitchen, and the importance of balanced nutrition at home.  This class is suitable for children from 7 to 12 years of age (minimum one parent to each child).  Cost: $60/person; pre-registration required.

June 7 - 5 to 8pm
cooking with local spring produce:
 Fiddleheads, rhubarb, artichokes, asparagus, and beets?.these are all amazing, nutrition packed vegetables.  But how does one prepare them?  These colorful vegetables, when properly prepared, are absolutely wonderful.  Taught by Marta Vaughn, RD LD, a registered dietitian, this evening hands-on class will inspire you to enjoy our local produce bounty with tasteful recipes that keep health in mind.  Recipes will be vegetarian.  Cost: $60; pre-registration required.

 Cooking can be a wonderful experience for creating foods that nourish your body and fuel your spirit for love.  This lively class is intended for couples who want to learn some basic skills in the kitchen and requires no prior experience.  This class is completely hands-on.  Taught by Chef Rodolfo, you will learn to prepare basic Italian sauces including a red sauce, meat sauce, and a white wine sauce. Cost: $100 per couple (includes meal and recipes). Class limited to 4 couples; pre-registration required.

one pot cooking: a class for college-bound students:
This lively, hands-on class is designed for anyone who wants to learn some really easy ways to prepare healthful meals that also taste great.  Whether or not you have any prior skills in the kitchen, you will leave this class feeling confident of your ability to cook a one pot meal! Cost: $60; class limited to 8; pre-registration required.

12 weeks to mindful eating: creating a healthy relationship with food:
Taught by Donald Altman, M.A., this group is designed for people who struggle with food. The focus of the group is on the positive benefits that food has to offer, and it uses mindfulness, or awareness, as a key component to gaining more skill with food. Participants will receive a comprehensive Guidebook and CD. Together, these will provide step-by-step guidance along with structured group activities and weekly assignments. A handy Weekly Skills and Activities Tracker, as well as other tools, will help you follow your progress. Each group is 90 minutes long, and groups continue for 12 consecutive weeks. Donald is a former Buddhist monk, two-time Emmy Award winning writer, and author of Meal By Meal, Art of the Inner Meal, and Living Kindness. He is a mental health therapist and practices in Portland and West Linn. Cost: $540 on site or $500 if paid in advance. Cost of program includes Guidebook and CD.  Group size is limited to 10. Pre-registration required; early registration encouraged.

Vinyasa yoga for beginners series:
 If you've been curious about yoga but afraid to attend large classes where all of the students are experienced and flexible, then this class is for you!  In this beginners series you will move at your own pace and develop a solid foundation for you to begin practicing yoga. The small class size allows for more individual attention. Please bring your own mat, water, and towel and be prepared to unleash the power within you!  Cost:$72.   Class size limited to 15.  Pre-registration required.
